The Orient Bambino is one of the most recommended affordable dress watches in the world — a genuine Japanese automatic movement in a refined, vintage-inspired package. Orient has produced the Bambino in many generations and colorways over the years; this guide covers the brand's heritage and the Ver. 2 we carry.
Who Makes the Bambino — Orient's Heritage
Orient Watch Company was founded in Japan in 1950 and has been a subsidiary of Seiko Epson Corporation since 2009. Unlike many watch brands at its price point, Orient designs and manufactures its own calibers in-house — a meaningful differentiator. The Bambino line has been produced in various iterations since the 1970s, always carrying Orient's in-house automatic movements.
The In-House Movement
Orient's Bambino uses in-house Orient calibers across its generations. Typical specifications:

- Accuracy: Approximately ±10-15 seconds per day — respectable for an in-house movement at this price
- Hacking: Yes — secondhand stops when crown is pulled for precise setting
- Hand-winding: Yes — a genuine advantage over some competing movements
- Date: Most Bambino versions include a date window at 3 o'clock; some small-seconds variants omit it for a cleaner dial
The in-house movement matters for collectors: Orient calibers are serviceable worldwide at Orient service centers and many independent watchmakers familiar with Japanese movements.
Bambino Ver. 2 — The Model We Carry
The Ver. 2 is the most widely recognized and recommended Bambino — the design most people picture when they hear "Orient Bambino." Features: convex curved dial on a slightly concave case profile, domed mineral crystal, Roman numeral or baton indices, leather strap.
Water resistance is 30m — sufficient for splashes and hand washing, but not for swimming. Hand-winding and hacking (stop-second function) are supported, which is a genuine advantage over many automatics at this price.
